The Bee House is taking on residents....
The Bee House is taking on residents.... When I hung it earlier this summer, I had my doubts whether or not it would attract any bees. On my balcony, in the midst of all the action, a weird little box full of tubes.... But, it has been discovered! Unfortunately, the bees have been using my flowers pack those little tubes they've been depositing their larva in. Sigh.... I was having such a good flower year, too! They've been looking amazing all summer long. This planter, and my miniature rose plant have been hit hard. I'm kind of excited to see how many bees end up taking residence. |

Love watching the bees work. Happily hopping from flower to flower in a seemingly random pattern. Then you realize that although random, every one of those flowers will get fertilizes in the end. Isn’t nature great. Bees, my role models!

I haven't seen very many bumble bees lately. The blackberries are in abundance, so I'm hoping the bees will be busy.

Oh yikes!! That looks scary! I'd keep my distance from that!!

Since you posted about this the first time I looked into getting one, they're called bee hotels here. So they don't necessarily encourage a hive but rather provide refuge for weary bees going about a long day of pollen collection. I'm def' going to get one now, that looks fabulous.

It was very thoughtful of you to not only provide them housing, but some of the necessities for their nurseries!

Will they make honey?

I'm not sure, but are you sure they are bees or are they a type of wasp. I've been around a lot of bees in my life and this doesnt look normal, keep close eye, a bee is very easy to identify. the wasp I think you have is hiding food in the tubes for later in the winter, packing it in with dirt, leaves or other material.. nice looking flower , have a nice day be safe

cool, maybe there are some pretty plants that bees don't like? or at least aren't REALLY attractive to bees
| ||

Your bee house is for solitary bees, which most likely are native, while honey bees come from Europe. Some solitary bees are mistaken for wasps. However you will most likely get some wasps tucking insects for food in there for the eggs they lay in there before they seal the hole.
