My first night I had dinner alone in the hotel restaurant. A nice tenderloin (wet aged -- I prefer dry aged -- but very good quality meat). A glass of Justin cab, a Provencial flatbread as first course. Finger potatoes, onions, leeks accompanied the steak. I finished with coffee and Armagnac. Life is too short to eat bad food and drink cheap wine.

Last night I was joined by a girl who I had not seen in over a year. Her 3 year old was running a temperature of over 101. Her mother was caring for her son while she came to see me. We had a similar dinner and stayed in the hotel restaurant. She was insistent on seeing me. I thought she might bail to take care of her son. We finished with a play time and then she dressed and left to care for her son. I have ambivalent feelings about the night. I was happy she came to see me and felt it was important. But I was sad that her son was sick and she felt it more important to see me thanto care for her sick son.

I am not all about me. I would have more than understood had she decided not to see me.

By the way, the wine was a bottle of Pahlmeyer 2004. Excellent.
