THE HOTTEST DAYS OF THE YEAR Our A/C runs 24/7 all through June, July, August, and usually September. It would be nice to have solar panels on our roof to help pay, or totally pay the cost of the electricity used during the summer at our house. We've considered solar panels, but as things stand now, our electricity bill is surprisingly low for the way our A/C keeps the inside of our house crispy cool even when the outside temperature goes over 110. (Which is often). We have enclosed porches all the way around our house, and a double roof on all the living quarters. In the Southern exposure which gets the most sun, I've built double walls. The secret of Desert living in the summer is to keep the blast furnace sun off of everything one can. Anything made of rubber or of plastic deteriorates here in a short time from solar radiation. Things like the tire valves on your car deteriorate so that the tires start leaking air if the car is parked in the sun for any length of time. The paint on your house takes a real beating during the hottest days of summer. M. and I paint some part of our house over almost every winter. We would be totally helpless against the ravishes of nature if we were suddenly transported to the Dakotas, Montana,Wisconsin Nebraska,Northern Michigan, Canada, or Alaska--any place where the climate is so different from where we now live. Both M. and I have lived in the hot desert for so many years, that we've come to like and enjoy the hot summers. I know for me, as soon as warm weather in May arrives, I start getting more horny than during the cold weather. The wonderful feeling of going around nude at our place, and wearing only shoes, a T-shirt and baggy thin shorts during the summer is great, and I'd have a tough time having to dress in more clothes anywhere else. Not to mention our clothing bills are next to nothing ! It's amazing how people can adjust to living conditions if they're able to survive for a couple of years to learn how to cope with nature. Even animals adjust to their environment. My Chesapeake Bay Retriever has never seen water out here in more than his water bowl, but he's perfectly content with playing in the sand and not water. I'd be mostly afraid of the Grizzly's in Alaska. Farther North Polar Bears are deadly hunters and like human meat. All of us adjust to our climate, and both humans and animals seem to be pretty good at it. by david stardust...July 20, Wednesday, 2016....    |

The nice thing about this area and it's extreme heat and barren landscape, is that few people from the millions only 150 miles to our West, want to venture out here. Slowly, over the years more and more people are moving here, but our place is still remote with only sand horse trails for roads. It would ruin our ability to go nude most of the year if we started getting people out here. It would also ruin my two dog's ability to run free on our early morning walks, I know they'd hate that. yes another hot one here today 90 F at 2pm -friday 22rd Each summer that I've been here (since May 13th, 1976, when I bought this place), The summers have been getting longer. Not necessarily hotter, but they used to end around Labor Day. Not the hot weather continues up through October... One good thing is that A/C's are much better and cheaper to run than they were forty plus years ago. Thanks for the temp. update. Smoothness!! love, david

Wow that is really hot the place where you live. Now I know why you disappear in the winter time as you love hot weather hugsssssssss V Great pics One of the most wonderful things about our area is our ability to go nude all the time. The freedom of our bodies without clothes, becomes such a marvelous feeling that when colder weather arrives, we always resent having to put on clothes in order to go out in the weather.

You've certainly been around this country, HC ! From the cold climates to Florida, must have been a strain on your bodily systems. People who come to visit me during the summers usually don't stay very long because their bodies simply can't stand the heat that M. and I find just "warm". I set my A/C at 80, and sometimes the dogs together with us find that temp. a little too cold.. As far as the cost of camping !!! Yes, prices for enjoying the great parks and campsites have gone "bananas" ... It's almost as if the rich keep upping the costs in order to keep the have not's from beautiful spots. The beaches along Southern California, especially around the Los Angeles area are now almost impossible to take a family to... The cost of parking alone makes it prohibitive.
