BOOKS ARE SO MUCH MORE INTENSE THAN MOVIES

Books are so much more intense than movies...

I've always loved to read, but aside from reading things on the Web, I
haven't dived into a good book in a long time.

One of the reasons for this is the PRICE of books..I'm so old I remember bestselling paperbacks costing 50 or 75 cents...I CAN afford twenty bucks to buy a book, but something in me just WON'T let me spend that amount to buy just any book.

I like adventure, books. The bigger, and fatter they are, the better.

Do any of you have a Dollar General Store in your area? I recently discovered one of those stores only about 15 miles from my place.. and low and behold, they have a large rack of new paperback novels costing only a few bucks.

I researched these Dollar General Stores on the Web, and came up with the fact that their prices are cheaper than comparable products at Walmart. I've found this to be true after shopping there for a few months.

So, in case any of you like adventure stories, the book I'm now reading and enjoying is SANCTUS by Simon Toyne.. It's a mystery, adventure story, set in a religious cult in Turkey, filled with monks and all sorts of religious babble..

I've been reading it so intensely that I even feel like a monk myself, and haven't even had sex with anyone but myself for a few days..

Love--try to stay cool...

I have that problem during the cool winter months here, but the hot summers provide me with a lot of inside leisure time...And....this summer sure has been a lot one!

I like the big fat books of over 5 or 6 hundred pages. It's discouraging to get into a skinny book and have it finished before I'm satiated with it.

I too agree that book are much more intense, (usually) than movies. Given a choice of watching a movie or reading a book I will almost always take the book. I do remember buying most paperback books for 65 to 95 cents. An outrageously priced one cost 1.50. I am fortunate to we have several used book stores in the city I live in. Saves a bundle and I can often get old out of print titles that I have read maybe 40+ years ago real cheap.
I know what you're writing here, Justskin. I really like to get into a nice fat adventure story and be able to spend a couple of enjoyable afternoons quietly reading. When I lived in the L.A. area there were numerous book stores both new and used that I wandered through and usually bought something. This desert area is a desert (lol) as far as book stores go.. But....of course the desert has plenty of other advantages that the city can't compete with.

If you see me in the real world, come say "Hi Justskin."

I always behave. Preferably not well.
